140: Electro-Funk May 1985

In this transmission we are heading back forty years, to May 1985 to hear the sounds of electro funk: a mix of rap, synth pop, cut-ups and electronic dance music. The chart was compiled by the long-gone Groove Records of Greek Street, Soho, a chart that was the foundation of pirate radio shows throughout the country in the mid 1980s introducing a generation of fans to early hip hop, electronic dance music, dub mixes, vocoders, drum machines, synthesizers, graffiti art, body popping, break-dancing and turntable scratching. , so dust down your tracksuit, get out your boom box, pause buttons at the ready, let’s break.
